Project

Ten years after its initial National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation in 2013, the UK Markey Cancer Center has been named an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. There are only 55 NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country, and Markey is the first and only one in Kentucky. UK Markey Cancer Center can offer cutting-edge and early phase therapies not available to patients being treated anywhere else in Kentucky. Comprehensive Cancer Centers are also recognized for cancer research and control programs that benefit the communities they serve, and programs to educate and train the next generation of cancer researchers and clinicians. This new complex, with an estimated 260,000 square feet solely for cancer services, will allow for the needed expansion of patient care services and increased ease of access for the UK Markey Cancer Center. Other services targeted for this location may include but are not limited to, outpatient operating rooms, minor procedures, endoscopy, diagnostics and imaging services, pharmacy, retail, outpatient clinics, meeting spaces and necessary support spaces.
